THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Back in the days, the good old days
When I would walk barefoot
Covered in a mere leso and I didn’t care
When happiness was all we had

Back in the days, the good old days
When greed wasn’t in the community
Sharing the little wild meat among all
When unity and love was all we had

Back in the days, the good old days
When we would sit around a bonfire
Sharing stories, riddles and proverbs in the cool night breeze
When peace was all we had

Back in the days, the good old days
When we would walk miles
Collecting firewood and picking wild berries for our siblings
When hard work was all we had

Back in the days, the good old days
Where our grandmom would teach us using proverbs
On how to be the good children raised by the community
When good morals was all we had

Back in the days, the good old days
How I miss my past
When I knew all aunts are my moms all uncles are my dads
When respect was all we had

Seems we’ve outgrown our past
And gotten deeper into the western culture
Forgetting our cultural rites and falling for modernity
This is no more old good days

Back in the days, the good old days
Memories I will always cherish
Where I was the daughter of the community
Memories sweet memories
