South African Hip Hop music industry has in the recent past gained the energy that seem unbeatable by any other African country. Legendary names such as Nasty C, A-reece, emtee, Casper Nyovest, Shane Eagle, AKA to mention but a few have been on the international wave. The upcoming generation is also evolving with authentic talents which are prospected to hit the top flag. We interview one of the extremely talented young South African rappers, Sbusiso Biyela AKA Remark Rush.

Who is Remark Rush?

Remark Rush is a 20 year old rapper hailing from Eshowe, a small town near Durban, South Africa. My real name is Sbusiso Biyela.

When did you start rapping?

You know a Lot of people don’t believe when I tell them that I only started rapping in the year 2017.

What inspires your music?

Well, basically my music is mostly inspired by my Background, how people grew up and how people treat me. Mostly I like to make music about the things that I want to accomplish in the near Future.

Whom do you look up to?

I look up to A-Reece , Proverb And J Cole

What can you say about South African music industry?

Well, I have to say our brothers have really taken South African Hip Hop to another level. I am really happy about the game.

How long does it take you to finish a song?

It only takes me 2 hours to complete a song.

If you weren’t rapping, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t rapping, I would probably be playing soccer. Man, I was a good midfielder back in the days. So yeah, if I wasn’t rapping I would definitely be playing soccer.

What is your hidden talent?

My hidden talent? Well, I don’t know actually but I think I can write books.

What is it that most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that am a funny guy. Actually am a very good buddy to hang out with…people assume that just because you are a rapper you ain’t got friends or you don’t spend quality time relaxing with family and friends. I am not that type of rapper.

If you were to marry a female artist, whom would it be?

Rowlene. She’s signed by Nasty C under Tall Racks. I really love her.

Tell us about your last year (2018)

2018 was good and bad to me. Early 2018 I got a deal and signed to First Touch Music Records which am still working with. I lost a few day one friends last year, sadly. I also dropped my first EP which is titled #Isilungu which contains 5 songs. Finally, I got featured in a few Dqom songs By Da Prince. so yeah that was my 2018.

What should people anticipate from you this year?

This year season after season I want to drop singles and maybe another EP. People should expect a lot of singles from me this year.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

My childhood friends and brothers always tell me “Sbu, you are wasting your time with this rapping thing. You will never make it big. Give up already”

Any message you want to pass?

I’d like to thank everyone who has been supporting me from my hometown and I’d like to ask people to please download and support my music. Thank You!
