Exclusive Up Close With Co-founder Poloshirts_Kenya: Winnie Jematur Boronjo

Fashion never fades, and passion never gets old. Winnie Jematur Boronjo, co-founder at poloshirts_kenya has been on her trail to success. The pandemic has blackened every surface, but she took a positive turn to scratch her creativity and passion. She shares her journey with us.

Briefly tell us about yourself?

My name is Winnie Jematur Boronjo, I’m twenty-six years old. I pursued Bachelors Degree in Communications and Public Relations at Moi University. I’m a Public relations practitioner. Co-Founder Poloshirts_Kenya.

How did the idea of Polo shirts come about?

Having been employed for five years, I took a bold step to quit and start P.R projects and consultancy together with marketing. Business started slowing down due to covid-19 and Poloshirts_Kenya was born.

What inspires you to keep going?

I thank God He has given me a heart of resilience. My daughter who is soon turning two years old inspires me to do even more, when life hits the bottom rock to keep moving and focus on the peak of the mountain.

Fashion industry is becoming competitive day by day; how do you maintain your brand up there?

Indeed, it’s competitive I can say I did my research well my clients can attribute to my unique and quality products I sell to them. I give 100% customer experience and services. We have great demand of orders and deliver in time. Best achievement so far no client has requested for a refund.

What is the future for Poloshirts_Kenya?

The future is very bright. I plan to definitely invest in a brand, have new fashion trends on board and finally open stores countrywide.

What is your typical day like?

I wake at 4am whisper a prayer to God then prepare for my morning run at 5am-7am, freshen up, prepare breakfast for my family, go through my orders for delivery, phone calls are made as well for sourcing of new stock while afternoons I spend time with my daughter as I do my consultancy work.

Which International brand do you look up to?

Lacoste it is. They are authentic.

The pandemic has affected most businesses, how are you coping with the situation to retain your customers?

I have a great target market. Men love to dress elegant. Poloshirts break the office cycle of official wear in offices. I’m happy during this pandemic we have had immense support and orders; our Polo shirts are very affordable that’s the juice.

What is the biggest challenge bin this niche?

Online shopping has its own challenges we do sell unique pieces and most clients would wish to get the specific item. That’s the only challenge we have at the moment.

What else do you do?

I am the Head of Marketing Kenya Medical Association Kericho and Bomet region, PR consultant as well.

What advice will you give to a youth interested in such a trail?

Let’s learn to create jobs, white color jobs are fading away, stop warming beds do something as little as selling vegetables. It is well, it shall be well.

Parting shot:

Jobs are becoming scarce if we don’t create we will waste away.
