UNVEILING ‘THE GIRLS’

One in every 3 girls has a clique, a squad, a troupe. I call this female gangs ‘the girls.’ The girls are mostly four in their squad, sometimes five. This is the squad that decides whether your girl will be loyal to you, dump you or spend the night at your place.

Among the fours girls, always, two of them are in the verge of a relationship. The remaining two are either nursing a servere heartbreak or swearing to never date again, whispering ‘men are trash’ whenever they see a couple together.

These damsels are invariably beautiful. It might puzzle you to wonder why they are still single.

The chubby one in the clique is always the noisy one, and the one with all the gossip. The cutest of all is always silent, humble and the most heartbroken one. The other two are close, too close. They sometimes gossip the other two. They act like sisters around each other. You might mistaken them for lesbians.

Despite all the relationship drama revolving around such a troupe, most of them tend to be independent. You’ll spot them at The Node in westlands clinking glasses, then bump onto their group photos on Instagram enjoying a weekend in the sandy beaches of Mombasa. All on their bills. But of course, there’s always that cheapskate in the squad, who always complains of being broke and is always in pursuit of a rich guy.

For a man to win the heart of a girl in such a clique, you’ll have to impress all of them. Not once nor twice will they show up on your dates and call the shots, leaving you with bills that will force you to call your boys for a rescue.

They are the same ladies that will influence your girl to dump you. They have powers. They have powers to make you look useless in the eyes of your girl. One slight slip up you make in your relationship will always be presented to ‘the girls’ for analysis and decision making. It hardly goes well when it lands on their desk.

Competition is a currency in these cliques. They’ll always want to outshine each other. Most of these competitions are always low-key. They’d compete over wigs, nails, make ups, dresscodes and men.

On the other flip of the coin, the girls are the best. They have an energy around them, a sisterhood. They’ll offer both mental, physical and emotional support to each other when needed, and fight against one enemy when appropriate.
