BIRTHDAY PARTY TURNED QUARANTINE

I first met Elroy at my girlfriend’s place. I was introduced to him as her cousin. I had decided to surprise her; chocolate, flowers, bracelet and a yves saint Laurent jumpsuit that she had stared at the store the previous weekend during our occasional window shopping spree.

We talked about everything from corona to politics, sports to economy and back to new tesla super cars with her cousin as shania (my girlfriend)prepared some munch. The guy later introduced himself as Elroy adding that his close friends call him El.

Second time, I bumped on some nudes in my girlfriend’s phone from a guy saved ‘lipunda.’ I searched the number on true caller and there popped the name, Elroy Ogonji. Long story short I broke up with my girlfriend.

23rd of April was Elroy’s birthday. We had met once ever since my break up with Shania. He had apologised for sending nudes to shania and also confessed of smashing her several times. We toased to brocode, to no grudges and to a happy single life.

“When you hear the siren of an ambulance at your gate, just get out and get in.” He had instructed in the morning of his birthday.

“You’re having your birthday party at the hospital?” I asked, ignorantly.

“I have it all figured out bro.” He assured.

“I was kidding, What time will the ambulance zoom in though?”

“Around 8pm.”

“Copy that.” I said.

At 8pm, as he had promised, an ambulance pulled up and picked me. We drove to westlands and locked ourselves in a club.

Elroy was aleady there, tipsy. He had invited only 9 people, among them were two famous TV anchors, a very controversial politician, C.E.O of one of the telecommunication companies and afew ladies that I couldn’t recognize.

“Feel free to network, in this town you must know someone who knows someone.” Elroy whispered to me then disappeared to the table where four ladies seemed to share gossips. I immediately walked to the counter, grabbed a glass of liquor then sauntered to the C.E.O.

Before I even uttered a word, I noticed Elroy signalling me to join him at the table.

“I wanted you to meet my ladies.” He said, “they are single as you can see and they like guys like you.”

I introduced myself then dived into their discussion. They were talkative, owe it to the drinks, perhaps.

Even before Alice (one of the ladies)had told us about her body count, we heard loud knocks at the entrance.

“There must be a snitch.” Elroy whispered.

He stood up and strode to one of the Tv anchors. They seemed to be having a harsh conversation.

“Fungueni hii mlango! (Open this door.)” A croaky voice ordered from outside. Everyone was engulfed in trepidation.

“Just open.” The C.E.O said as he fished out his phone.

Elroy walked to the entrance and opened the metalic door that looked like a gate. Out there stood four policemen with their landrover well packed behind them. Shania was comfortably glaring at us from the front seat of the landrover.

“Nyinyi ndo wale wajanja, huh?” One of the cops jested as he circled cuffs on our wrists.

We were thrown into the landrover and driven to KMTC Mbagathi Hospital for 14 days of quarantine before facing further repercussions.
