TO THE WISEST MAN I KNOW

Has there been another art so devoutly converted into a science as the art of parenting? ~ Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner (Freakonomics)

I don’t know about you but my Dad is the only person who says he called coz he missed hearing my voice and it suddenly brightens and makes my day, however late!

Being a self taught professional swimmer, he stole a lesson or two for me as he trained me how to float, the first lesson of swimming; a professional basketball player, from whom I stole the genes (as the sport runs in my blood); and as a career he lights up your world as he connects two and two to form a circuit.

He is the wisest man I know, and a glimpse of his general knowledge archive could easily blow your mind! After a day’s work, you could see him doz off during news time, but a hot debate of whether or not Magoha came out too strong the first time he said the exam dates won’t change coz of the COVID-19 pandemic, can never go past him as he’ll always contribute a point or two of his wisdom. Eventually act as the moderator, the final sentiments being his.

All siblings across, he’d always keep an eye on the progress of the report sheets and social interactions alike. Always advising, helping with a math or two and promoting the recent join to a club/sport. He never missed any event, be it visiting, never ending AGM meetings and the exhausting clinics.

Countless are the lessons I’ve learnt from him. He gives the saying “Rome was not built in a day” life by how he starts a project from scratch and works on it with diligence and patience till the ultimate end when you see the spectacular results.
Did I mention how funny he is? He is hilarious when he cracks a joke and rib-cracking even when he wasn’t intending to. I remember as he corrected me with sarcasm while I was driving and I’d laugh out loud as I turned the steering wheel right and parked cautiously under the dim light.

Fun were the times we’d drive to Corner Baridi, ate to our fill in the cold striking breeze as we admired the beauty of nature, watching the Maasai’s selling their beaded necklaces, bangles, ankles and headbands. Others just grazing their herd in their warm shukas.

Being father’s day, I crown him….coz I celebrate him everyday. He is the best I could ever ask for and I could go on and on… Actually, these are just a handful. A tip of the iceberg, they say.
Happy Father’s Day Dad!!
