THE LADY WHO NAILED “SONDEKA” CHALLENGE
She is a queen of refix, a queen of covers. Here is the tid bits of her trail.
Tell us about yourself?
My name is Julie Serve, I am a Teacher of English, Make up artist and a vocalist. I am very passionate about art.
What inspired you to do the refix?
My friend told me about the sondeka challenge that had been going on for a while after the release of sondeka part2. I loved the song so I went to the studio and did a refix of the same.
Have you done any other refixes other than that?
I have done other refixes but I have not released them yet.. Davido’s Fia. I’m planning to do more refixes next year and probably release a single too.
Talking about Kenyan music, what’s your take on the new sound hitting the airwaves nowadays?
I appreciate the fact that Kenya has really diversified in terms of music, we have artists doing almost every genre which is a good thing. About the new wave gengetone, I love the fact that Kenya can now identify itself with a certain sound just like the way we identify Jamaica with dancehall or Nigeria with afrobeat. Its a huge step.
If you were to date a Kenyan celebrity, who would it be?
If I were to date a Kenyan celebrity…well, I’ve never thought about that, for now whoever I’m seeing is enough. Hehe
What else do you do in the shower other than taking a bath?
I sing a lot in the shower haha
What do you love about Kenya?
Kenya is very accommodative.
It has a platform for so many kinds of talents and abilities especially in the art industry, there’s room for everything.
What would you advice upcoming artists like you?
Do not give up on anything you focus on. This is not just for upcoming artists but for everyone out there with a purpose to be great in whatever field you’ve chosen. Push, eventually you’ll get there.
