ONE ON ONE WITH E-360 AWARDS EMERGING DJ OF THE YEAR NOMINEE

He discovered his trail of passion early enough to change his mind. Tossing from one song to another, adjusting tempos and spicing with scratches and effects has been his day to day preoccupation. Dj Lads, E-360 Awards Nominee shares his story with us.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Samuel Omondi aka Dj Lads. I was born and raised in Nairobi in a family of 7, me being the first born.

When did you discover you could actually scratch?

My love for music started back then in my childhood.I used to listen to alot of music from both local and international artists. I used to admire Dj Terots who used to play on truth fm and Dj Mo who played on Ntv on Saturdays and Sundays. I then joined Aga Khan high school in westlands which then nurtured my talent. I was appointed the music prefect and was also in charge of entertainment during school functions. After completing my high school, I joined Parklands Baptist and to date I’m one of the resident DJs.

Who is your role model?

I actually have two.They are Dj Joe Mfalme and Dj Terots who’s the founder and CEO of school of scratch Dj Academy kenya.

You are fully a gospel Dj?

Yes. I’m a gospel Dj.

Do you get tempted to scratch some secular music?

During Cooperate events and weddings whereby you’d find the client wants a specific type of song for his/her event. But you just have to stick to your guns.

You were nominated as the emerging Dj of the year, tell us about the journey

My Djing Journey hasn’t been easy at all. When I started off back then in high school I didn’t have that much support from my parents.They actually wanted me to do something else like venturing into business though my interest was in the entertainment industry. To date, I’ve done professional DJing for Two years and 2019 has started off well with my nomination as the E-360 emerging DJ of the year. People can vote for me by sending the keyword 7B to 22920.

Any myth you’ve heard about Djs?

(Laughs) Most people actually think of Deejays as people who are into alcohol, drugs,sex,women or even unlearned people but it isn’t the truth, it’s simply a myth.

What do you have in store for us in 2019?

In 2019, God willing I’ll soon be doing more TV and Radio shows and I’d love to mentor young DJs because I know how hard it can be at times before one becomes well established.
