MOTI-ICE: The mellow vocal epitomist

At the age of five years, while some of us were still mumbling and struggling to wake up each morning to go to school, his talent was already visible and felt. With a charming and mellifluous voice, he attracts his listeners who not only get entertained but relate a lot of their life experiences with his tracks, a reason that makes them yearn for more of his soulful music. The multi-talented Mombasa-born artist, Moti-Ice is a fast-rising Kenyan Artist who does really good and believes in his talent, he shares it all with TYM.

TYM: Who is Moti-Ice?
MOTI: Moti-Ice is a Kenyan artist, song writer, audio producer under Hometown Music. Currently working on having my own label, ‘Ice Music’ which I believe will be of great help to the current and future generations.

TYM: Awesome introduction there, what is your genre of music?
MOTI: I am dynamic and versatile so I do a blend of Urban Music and afro-pop.

TYM: When was the first time you stepped in a studio.
MOTI: That was way back in the year 2007,when I first dropped a single called Lady Aisha,(sings for a while),then later released ‘Shiro’ which became a major breakthrough in my music career. So it’s been around 12 years in music industry.

TYM: For sure that’s a long time and your consistence in the industry is an inspiration to the youth. Tell me, what inspires each day as an artiste?
MOTI: Day-to-day life does inspire me so much, to be precise my songs are based on day-to-day life experiences of most people in the society. Moreover, different artists inspire me too,the likes of the late legend Michael Jackson, and Nyota Ndogo among others here in Africa and beyond.

TYM: Biggest achievement in Music industry.
MOTI: I have successfully managed to achieve my dream of owning a studio. It isn’t that easy to own one, you know (giggles).

TYM: Congratulations bro for achieving that. What are some the projects that you are working on.
MOTI: My next project is called ‘Kasome’, Kasome is based on the idea where a school girl is in love with me,so am trying to encourage her to get to her books first, work for her future then later talk about Love. After Kasome I am planning to work on a project called ‘kachiri,’ which basically is blend of Kenyan Coastal music and the current, like the ‘twisti’ song.Later, will work on ‘Wivu na Wewe’,the idea behind this is the insecurity someone has when a partner talk or engage with the opposite gender. A lot of projects afterwards.

TYM: Wow! I bet your listeners will be glad with that. What are some of the challenges that you face as an artist.
MOTI: Balancing between personal resposibilities and music is hectic. Working on that though. Another challenge at the moment is the management, I solely depend on myself, got no manager at the moment.
