I ‘d like to take our masculine persons to school on what famine spirits really want out of relationships. By the time we finish up, if you are a gent and you have no maama, this will start off the engine for you and if you already have your maama, you will know how to keep her. The 1014 words that I patiently write to you will be worth it.

1.BE CLEAR WITH HER.

If you are looking for miss right out there or you just need your lady to feel all good and a bag of chips, be certain on what you want with her. Clarity is key She will feel empowered and this helps you both to immense into complete happiness. As j. cole once twitted “Lack of communication leaves too much room for imagination. Communicate your feelings, never assume anything and your relationship will end up being an ‘I do’ journey.

2. LISTEN TO HER

A lady who feels like her opinions and interests are put into consideration will feel relaxed and we all know some women even prefer being respected than being loved. Not that she doesn’t want those midmorning calls just to be told ‘I love you’ by her mans, but listening to your lady’s ideas and putting her thought into consideration is a whole other kind of intimacy.

3. DON’T THINK OF SEX
ALL THE TIME

You don’t need to think of sex every time you are with your girl. She will find it attractive when she sits with her mans and have deep thoughts, talk about the future and all. There are different kinds of connection yet mind connection seems to be the rarest of them all and when you just get it, it’s impossible to leave it. Guys focus on having the rare things in a relationship right and the others will follow.

4. MAINTAIN THE CONSISTENCY

Security in a relationship is all about consistency. A lady will stretch the same energy you give her. True, she is an incubator and it will make such a good relationship when you come out with the same energy all the way. Whether it’s your first year or your third year, you must make sure that she feels as loved as the first time you met her. I am not saying there won’t be ups and downs but I mean, if you are meant to be, it will not be a tedious task to keep up with the same direction you started with.

5. DON’T LET HER FEEL LONELY

Guys! guys! guys! listen up! Being present in your relationship is a necessity. I mean, why would you want to be in a relationship yet you don’t show who you are in your fullness? The worst fault you could do in a relationship is to let your mamma feel lonely. That means you must knock the door with all you got. Don’t hold back and you will see how interesting your relationship will be.

6. LEAD THE RELATIONSHIP.

Men naturally are leaders. Don’t argue with me. You have more responsibility to carry on. Lead your relationship. No lady likes a man who cannot decide on anything for both of you. It is very intriguing for a lady when her king says ‘we are going for dinner tonight’ other than ‘can we go for dinner tonight?’ you see the difference, don’t try to give your munchkin room to see your lack of direction. I speak for all ladies when I say, there is something attractive with a confident man. it’s not that she likes a ‘bad boy’, it’s the confidence he has that ignites her sparks.

7. BE HONEST WITH HER

What can’t a lady give for honesty? I mean, an honest man is just close to God. She wants to know what are your genuine thoughts. She wants to fully trust you and guys, everything in a relationship is given other than trust. You have to earn your queen’s trust. why don’t you be open and give her information that will satisfy her curious mind? When a lady doesn’t get answers to what she is asking, her mind starts to perambulate and you don’t want to give your lady space to think because most likely, she will overthink.

8. PAY ATTENTION TO HER

I have sat with my girlfriends and I have heard the phrase ‘he doesn’t get me’ more times than I would ever want to hear. I mean, men. What happened to paying attention to her? She just wants to be seen, to be heard. It goes from knowing her favorite candy to knowing her future dreams and interest. Nothing turns on a girl when her mans gets her a bottle of water as he goes to get his without even asking. Show that you care. I mean, it is just that simple, you don’t need to go overboard to impress your pumpkin. Even giving her a nickname.

9. BE ROMANTIC

She loves sex as much as you do. She wants you to grab her by the waist and hug her from behind. She wants her hair messed up. She likes it when you give her kisses especially neck and forward kisses. She wants to feel the romance. Keep it interesting in the bedroom and in the relationship generally. It’s all she is asking for. Treat her as you are trying to win her heart all over again.

Over the decades, every generation has had a fight or course for something. There have been courses advanced by religious beliefs for recognition or as crusades. There have been causes advanced by various minority organisations, due to racial discriminations, self determination among others.

And all thanks to civilization and democracy every one deserves equal rights. Of all the causes, there’s has been a silent one in all history, one which was aimed at changing the status quo, the place of women in society. Women have always had it rough fighting for equality, trying to have a voice, and they wouldn’t be called a minority in this case. It has been a fight in every corner of the earth, from the primary social unit to every other aspect. Any success case has always been out of chance but not out of right.

To address the inequalities, governments organisations and individuals teamed up to put in place social programs that gave each woman a fighting chance.

Over half a decade there were changes towards the right direction. And it’s evident that they’re more than worth it and a seat at the table isn’t negotiable.

Now women are Presidents, Austronats, Military generals and many more influential positions. They’ve set the example, broken the barriers and given inspiration to others.

But that’s not what my interest is in. My interest is in what the good dream of gender equality turned into. And it is being branded a good name to cover it all, “Modern Feminism”.

What is this modern feminism?
Feminism by its original design was the collective championing of women rights ‘least the world forgets.’

But it has turned toxic. it has become a tool for hatred and if unfeathered could eat out the fragile fabrics of society. It would be a catastrophe and social diplomacy wouldn’t be a tool able to save anyone. This kind of feminism has turned out to be a gender war, a radicalisation of some sorts. The modern feminism fights for control and authority.

Its crusaders never champion equality among themselves or help the less disadvantaged. They swing into action when it’s a question of power, or when it’s politically correct. Modern feminism crusaders have perfected the art of holding others hostage and branding their failures on womanhood. They abuse, despise anyone cause they’re ‘women’. This kind of feminism doesn’t care about the women in abusive marriages, the women who had to offer themselves to get job offers or a pass in anything.

These feminists despise other women who aren’t as successful as them, women who give birth become pariahs in their circles. The modern feminists are crusading against traditional values of feminism which were about love, compassion, nurturing and team playing.

This kind of feminism is associated with both a liberal and a radical component, attempting to eradicate formal inequalities within the current systems and structures, as well as dismantling patriarchy understood as a more fundamental structure of power based on sex and gender. It is also often characterized by attempts to cultivate political solidarity among women, a “sisterhood” based on presumed similar positions with respect to parochial public administration deconstruction. Additionally, the modern feminist thought is premised on progression, and on radical grounds by some standards, and certainly an advocacy for both equal rights and civil liberties. These constructs are what breed anarchy.

As a result of putting women issues on a pedestal, we’re now facing a threat against civilization at large. Radicalisation of a gender against another isn’t a low that we have gone as a society but we’re cutting the remaining holding piece of our society in which, religion, politics race and anything else has failed to unite.

But this can’t be fought like terrorism or banditry, this can only be dealt with in a sensitive approach, an approach that will make sure women empowerment won’t be threatened.

Toxic feminism is a discussion which should happen now, we don’t have time. It should be in every quarter, every street, every office, every class room.

Humanity has got atomic bombs and supersonic jets against external aggression but we don’t have any weapon against social enemies. Let’s start now before civilization becomes a failed experiment.

Domestic Abuse and Mental Health http://theyouthingmagazine.co.ke/2021/10/10/domestic-abuse-and-mental-health/ http://theyouthingmagazine.co.ke/2021/10/10/domestic-abuse-and-mental-health/#comments Sat, 09 Oct 2021 23:34:46 +0000 https://theyouthingmagazine.co.ke/?p=6680 Marriage is not a bed of roses, they all have their issues but while at it, let's try and protect the children.

There are moments when you shatter, you lose yourself to oblivion. When pain seems so extreme and hope looks like a delusion, but when you pull yourself out of that misery you get up and show strength, you’re even able to smile but the damage that has been done to your soul will always leave a painful mark, but you learn to live with the pain.

This is the pain that children who are raised in abusive homes have to live with. Watching one of the parent abuse the other leaves psychological pain in the lives of these kids. They are scarred for life.

Abuse can happen in so many ways, it could be physical abuse or even emotional abuse. In our African society, physical abuse is usually associated with men being the abusers while women being the recipients of this abuse. It usually entails being beaten up at times. It could go to the extremes of sexually being assaulted. Over the recent years research has shown that sexual abuse exists in marriage, the same research has also proven that women are not the only one who are abused even men can become victims of abuse in marriage.

Another form of abuse is usually emotional abuse. Emotional abuse could range from being manipulated by your significant other into doing things that in your normal day-to-day life you would never think of doing. It could also take a form of belittlement where your other half makes you feel you’re not good enough .This type of abuse breaks you emotionally, mentally and it even exhausts you physically.

Children who grow up witnessing such type of abuse grow up with psychological issues. They have’ trigger issues’ in that, as they grow up, when they are faced with something similar that they saw their parents go through, they are easily triggered and could behave in somewhat unusual ways. Some of these triggers could go as far as causing panic attacks, anger issues and so many other things. These kids could also suffer from co-dependent behaviors in their own relationships.

Co-dependency is a behavioral condition where a person encourages and enables another person’s addiction, poor mental health, immaturity or under achievement in a relationship. Among it’s core characteristics is usually an excessive reliance on other people for approval and sense of identity .

Co-dependent people thrive on need to be needed. Usually most children who have been exposed to abusive homes feel the need to take care of other people’s needs as they grow up trying to protect the ‘vulnerable person’ experiencing the abuse thus their source of gratification comes from taking care of others.

These kids need for love, attention, nurturing and security go unmet while pretending to be stronger than they are and they learn to deny the yearning to be taken care of, instead they look for opportunities to take care of others and will be attracted to relationship patners who have various issues in order to take care of them and while at it they are predisposed to codependent relationships.

Marriage is not a bed of roses, they all have their issues but while at it, let’s try and protect the children. Some of the things we ignore to be insignificant have profound effects on the children as they grow up.

If you are battling anxiety and depression, don’t let anyone tell you it’s “just stress.”

Majority of people all over the world experience a mental health issue each and everyday of the life that we live but we have not yet come to realize what mental health is or what can happen to us if we experience a metal health problem or a mental health breakdown.

Mental health includes our psychological, emotional, physical and even our social well-being. Mental health affects our daily activities of our lives in that it affects how we think, how we feel and even how we act and react towards different things and various approaches in life. With mental health, every individual learns how to control their emotions, how to relate with one another under different circumstances and also how to handle stress.

Mental health is a very important key in every step of one’s life, that is, from childhood to adolescent and from adolescent to adulthood. Many people all over the world experience mental problems. Mental problem can get worse if it is not taken care of or controlled.

Tragic experiences for example accidents, death of a child or even rape can cause trauma which may later to depression that may again lead to a mental health problem.

All over the world , when someone is experiencing a mental health problem (MHP), how they think, how they behave and their mood and even how they talk is affected.
As mentioned above, here are some of the few reasons that may lead to one having a mental health problem or a mental health breakdown:

Trauma and abuse
Trauma can be defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience while abuse can be defined as a cruel and violent towards a person.

Such experiences like rape, domestic violence or even discrimination and gender equality may lead to traumatic experience that may later on lead to a mental health problem.

Biological factor e.g genes
Anyone can be born with a mental health problem depending with the genes or brain chemistry. According to the U.S. NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE, brain chemistry can be defined as changes in the amount of various chemicals (neurotransmitters, receptors, enzymes and other metabolites) specific to the area of the central nervous system contained within the head which enables the brain to carry out it’s daily functions such as generating movements, thinking, speaking, listening and regulating the systems of the body.

Our world today is encompassed with people who have undergone terrifying or rough instances in their lives. Some of these experiences are brought about by either a person being negligent over an area which later turns to be worse, or someone having damaged their lives in various aspects.

Some heal fast, some take a long while to heal and some use the experiences they have gone through to be stronger and use them as a lesson to either impact others or use it in their lives as a lesson.

Some have challenges in airing them out and end up entangled in their emotions that always make them feel broken or not get along easily. Here are some of the things you need to pipit into consideration to try keep away from the traumatising memories that may not give one peace of mind.

FORGIVENESS
This, at times, is one thing that most people find hard to do. Either it is something to do with blaming yourself or something you cannot forgive someone for having done to you. This happens to break most of us down and forget what happened knowing not all situations are permanent.

Forgiveness is a door to allowing peace into your mind, heart and even soul. Before anything else, forgiveness should prevail to allow us

REACHING OUT
We all, at some point in life have one or two people we trust close to all our life with. People who are not going to judge us for an action or always answers to your call when in critical situations. They can be that close but some have to be evaluated on their worthiness.

Such people are of importance when it comes to airing some of the issues we have had or experiences that seem traumatising.

Do you have such a friend? If so, consider yourself a lucky person on this earth. (Don’t forget to remind them of how important they are in your life)

SEEKING PROFESSIONAL COUNSEL
Today’s world is rich in people with words of counsel. They are under the title ‘counsellors’ or ‘psychologists’. Most can be within hospitals as some institutions tend to integrate the medical world with such services.

In education institutions, one may not miss to spot an office belonging to a counsellor. One thing we need to know is they are there for us and we need not to fear approaching them for counsel and helping to find way forward.

ABSTAIN FROM IDLENESS
“An idle mind is the devil’s workshop”. We all are conversant with this saying that has been there since time immemorial. By giving ourselves that chance to sit and do nothing, you allow the negative thoughts to constantly attack you and beat you up till you have no way to tap out of it.

Keep yourself busy and away from from the idea on negativity. If you have to sit down and talk to yourself, it has got to be thoughts to do with how you are improving yourself to be a better you or how you are going to surprise your friend for his or her upcoming birthday party or just how you are going to start or improve your business idea.

When a negative idea slips in, bombard with with 3 positive ideas to keep such thoughts at bay.

EMBRACE SPIRITUALITY
Most of us are born in families that believe in religion. Some, may not know this but still have heard about the same.

We believe we have our creator who knew us ever before conception. God has a reason as to why some things happen to us at some point in life. After having some situations that make us feel unwanted in the human race, it is important to go back to He who brought us here. Some feel they are forgotten but all in all He never forgets his people.

Submitting to God is vital and letting Him be the one to take revenge. Let go and let God.

I believe with these few steps you’ll be able to repair the deep and at times tough experiences we have gone through, those that seem tough to go away like a stain on a white clothing.
But NO! It doesn’t have to be necessarily this way. We can be stronger and be a healed world.

“To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven.” ~ Ecc 3:1
Before you prosecute me for addressing a certain religion and singling out the others, think of it this way…a reference book, philosophers do that too right?

Now that I caught your attention, I’d like to bring up the story that everyone is too shy to talk about. The reality that strongly faces us but everyone seems to turn their faces aside!
I don’t know which of the two statistics is more precise than the next but I know that at least one is. At least one must be, right?

Its only been only been four months away from books and bells but sad it has come to this. Rape and transactional sex aside, that’s a whole other story! Story for another day, perhaps. I’m here to talk about those under the bracket of ‘consentual‘ sex. You know, that known boyfriend and girlfriend that was couple goals na walikuwa wanatesa…haha.

READ ALSO: HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO ASK FOR CONSENT

Children are a blessing and if all those believe that abortion is a crime, we’ll be welcoming 100k+ blessings by the end of the year or the next!!! With parents just two decades old or less apart, and responsibility for a life inflicted as a consequence of pleasure untimed!

At least most of them won’t face shame from the judging eyes of their schoolmates. But imagine how many will consider going back to school? Will forego their kid for ‘the key to success’? How many have parents doing well enough not to mind fending for another life as their own while still paying fees for the new mother to make a brighter future? With the economy on its knees, is it pain or pleasure to count another plate on the table? Dubbed ‘unwanted pregnancy’ , don’t you think the kid will inherit that unwantedness from here say and end up messed up psychologically? Leading them to depression, drugs, suicide or crime?

Marriage is for a purpose and waiting is for your own good!
What’s the beauty of a couple of minutes of pleasure under the covers if it’ll end up in 9 months of looking down in shame in the open and being cut off from a chance of a brighter future?
Many values have been lost on the way of never-present parents, uninterested teachers and ‘minding their own business’ elder siblings. Everyone is “self made” nowadays and the worth of society has been diminished!

I’m not so sure whether the question should be ‘who to blame’ but rather ‘how did I take part in this end game?’
With a world made up of connected fates, the fall of one equals the fall of us all! So as you work your way up, don’t turn a blind eye on whatever, at your arms’ reach, however small, you can change. Coz it might cost you the trouble of time now, and some little wisdom, but cost you an arm and a leg in future when it’ll be the missing link between you and reaching your ultimate goal.
In Swahili they say “usipoziba ufa utajenga ukuta”… Translation…” If you don’t fix a crack prepare to build a wall!”

Love between people who understand each other is more sweet than love between strangers. Being in a relationship with someone whom you’ve been friends with before is an amazing adventure, and many will agree.

Most marrige counsellors advocate for people to marry their own best friends. They say it’s more peaceful staying with someone that you’ve know in and out over the years.

It can be a debacle to have a best friend of the opposite gender. Especially when you are dating someone else at the time. Most lovers don’t entertain the thought of their partners having best friends of the opposite gender. It is seen as a shortcut to cheat.

We could have been in situations where our partners had friends of the opposite gender. It is never a good feeling seeing them together. That’s when insecurities start to kick.

For you to have a best friend of th opposite gender, it is safe if both of you are single. When you are both single, it will be easier to meet and hangout freely without feeling as if you are doing the wrong thing.

Friendships have boundaries, just like relationships. There are lines that your friend shouldn’t cross. These lines may include:

• Invasion of privacy

• Sexual advances

• Snitching

Invasion of privacy

some friends can b notorious to a point of not respecting your privacy. They will dig into your personal life till they make you uncomfortable. Some people prefer their phones to be private. Once you realise your friend is among those people, it is best to not touch their phone unless they allow you to do so.

Privacy is important. It is good to be mysteries a little. And no one should invade anyone’s privacy.

Sexual advances

It is normal for people to get attracted to other people. However it is inappropriate for your friend to start throwing Sexual advances your way. It will not only be awkward but also uncomfortable.

In as much this can be empasized, some people will still end up sleeping with their best friends of the opposite gender. Best friends get too close that they find it hard to resist some advances.

Snitching

Your friend should always have your back no matter what. They should b the ones to lock your secrets and be by side in every situation.

A friend who goes behind your back to say awful things about you i not really worth being your friend. In fact, he should be in the same category with your enemies.

You could be asking yourself why I outlined the boundaries. Well, worry no more. The boundaries help you to know how to interact with your friends. And best friends.

Having these boundaries in mind will help you know the reasons why you need to marry no other person but your best friend.

So, what are these reasons to marry your best friend?

1. You’ll be free with them

it is obvious to tell your best friend everything. It is also common to always feel free around your best friend. Wouldn’t that be the best feeling ever in your marriage?

Having a partner whom you can trust and tell everything is amazing. There are couples that find it hard to share information. This could be a case of mistrust or they just don’t feel free with each other.

There are topics that can be hard to share with your lover. Maybe because you fear they can get mad or judge you. Somehow, such dirty talks are not hard to talk with someone that you are free with.

2. Besties know you in and out

Best friends know each other deeply. They share everything that they become like siblings. Having someone that you know in and out for the rest of your life is everyone’s dream.

This could range from best moments, likes, dislikes, best food, how they act when mad, their dream careers et cetra, et cetra.

There is that game that is mostly played at weddings where the bride and the bridegroom are asked questions to gauge how much they know each other. Besties would automatically nail and ace on this one, don’t you think so?

Knowing how to handle someone’s mood swings or knowing how they react on certain matters is also essential.

3. Lots of memories

What is life without memories. Having memories as a couple is unarguably the best thing ever. Having a park that reminds you of something, or a restaurant where you had your first date, maybe the street where you met and so on. Those memories create a strong connection between lovers.

Best friends who have stayed together for longer years obviously have more memories. They have so many memories that they could easily forget some. They could pop up once in a while when a conversation that reminds them of the memories comes along.

When you marry someone whom you hold a million memories with, life will automatically be fun. And in most cases, this type of couple hardly break up because they have a whole line of history together.

4. Matching vibes

You have obviously met people who don’t match at all. Maybe one of them is talkative than the other, or the one of them is religious and the other a total pagan. It happens. These couples exist.

Spending the rest of your life with someone whom your vibes match is heavenly. You can share relatable stories and laugh together in happiness.

Best friends are a bundle of joy. They make life sweet and make the moments worth living.

Chosing a lifetime partner is one of the riskiest decision on earth. This is someone you are going to spend the rest of your life with. So, you have to be as sober as a judge and make the most appropriate decision.

Most people chose partners based on the wrong things such as physical appearance and that’s where they miss the shot.

When choosing a partner, look beyond their physical appearance, like the wise ones say, there is more than what meets the eye.

It’s still vividly clear in my mind as if yesterday. So fresh. The unit was dubbed PHIL 104, Introduction to philosophy. At first it got me thinking. Computer science and philosophy!? Where do they meet? It was a common unit. Anyway, it was for partial fulfilment of the course, I gave it some fair share of attention.

Dr.George Simiyu could speak some soothing lullaby in those classes that tempted us to wish each other good night on the onset of every class. Metaphysics, rationalism, empiricism and sundry were the concepts there in. Just to mention but a few that my cerebral cortex managed to store without corrupting the file.

Something that has given me this beautiful reminiscence is a concept on pre-convention, convention and post-convention, so that I don’t leave anyone agape, wondering what animals are these. Speedliy to bring us on the same page. Convention is something that is accepted in the society as morally good or to be followed. This plays a major role in who we became and affect our decision making and thinking.

Under pre-convention we have individuals who entirely rely on others for decision making, includes children under 10 years, mad people etcetera. Convention as have already said are the ideal principles, values, that are accepted by the community. They may not be necessarily ultimate. Arguably, under post convention, the crux and the reason I pulled my pen to spit this piece. Here is where, individuals in this category, thinks outside what the society believes and craft their own modus operandi of doing things and thinking.

Most people here are always with an insatiable thirst for change and reforms from the status quo. Mark you it’s not subversive unless you take it negatively. Very few are found in this category. It’s not reserved though.

Linear-thinking is the biggest enemy of innovation and creativity. We need to be warned in this generation where innovation and creativity are the game charger actions. If you live under the sun, like I do you must have come across this fellas, not to be surprised may be it has come from our own mouths saying ‘however much try it always fail’. ‘In our community people don’t excel much’. ‘We don’t have enough resources in our community to become anything’. There is no equity and equality in our country, so I can’t be anything ‘ Are these statements relatable to us?

Late senator Victor Prengei, may his soul rest in eternal peace. He was so courageous to beat every odd in his way and fought with a positive mindset from a minority community called Ogiek. He rose to leadership ranks until he became a competent senator. For the first time in history Ogiek had a representation in the Senate.

Who doesn’t know Prof. Hellen Sambili? You must be a stranger in Jerusalem if your hand is going up. Formerly minister for higher education, that’s a very serious portfolio y’all. Even before going there , just attaining the professorship, ain’t a joke from them that have that experience myself excluded, hehe.

The reason why I have hand picked her is the story I heard about her in a some conference where she was the keynote speaker. She comes from a community that know nothing and believe nothing on women leadership. She rose against the conventional and defied gravity and she became who she is! An incisive and an astitute mind that many admire and an inspiration to tons of people including men from her own community who were stabling blocks to her unstoppable dreams. MINDSET dear reader is of essence here.

Safara Kathimiti for those who know him: street urchin in Nairobi. From streets he is now a clout, a wave because he believes he can become anything regardless of where he is at the moment. A Destitute and with nothing attractive. The hit maker of ‘Mungu bariki chokora’ is a force to be watched. He is already a social media sensation. Shout outs to Mungai Eve for giving him a platform to showcase the positivity he has that needs to come out here for impact. Moving from potential to performance. I say it again, our MINDSET needs resetting for anything for us to be rated.

Kaa nitaona kesho nipe nguvu na uwezo wa kijana Na akili za mzee… I see you jamming into the song, wait! We ain’t singing here. Lets extract meaning from the excerpt now that the song is so familiar and you are uncontrollably nodding rhythmically. No doubt we have youthful strengths, where am not sure and I want us to pour our hearts out and be frank about is, akili za mzee (mind of an old person) History will haunt us if we are not learning from it.

The ugly drums of bad campaigns started long time ago. The tune was sought and the ‘dancery’ is well prepared. Ambitions have been declared. This time round from the statistics of 2019 census, everyone in political class is drooling profusely over this numbers. They say they don’t lie. Whopping 75.1% of Kenyan population is 35 years and below.

Okey, that has not moved you let me borrow acumen from actuaries, this fellas are trained to use numbers to predict future. 75.1% of 47million, rough estimate of our population is a solid 35.5 million! Numbers don’t lie right? This is a juggernaut y’all.Back to the song excerpt by Nyashiski called Mungu pekee. Enyewe hapa we need God only to make us woke from the stupor we have always found ourselves ever since time immemorial.

Lets avoid being treated as bunches of nincompoop by these people. Lets not be deceived this time round. From the numbers no doubt we are a massive force that should be feared by anyone. Lets be game changers for the first time in history. Its an opportune time for us to say no to the enticements from the manipulative politics that comes from perpetrators who are full/fool of themselves. Not even us they have in their mind. We are just being used for their own good. It sucks! Let’s be very independent in our approach to this electioneering period this time. Lets be vigilant and sober minded to make our beloved country great. It’s now on her knees, let’s rescue our habitat.

I rally us, lets show everyone that things have changed and we are no longer easy-goers this time, neither are we do-nothings type. We are young energetic with highly coiled grey matter between our ears. Let’s show them what we have on top of the neck isn’t a swollen neck but functional head to make decisions assertively.

Time has come, and it’s now here to stop being misused by political classes to cause chaos and blunders in our great country in prospect. Peace, I’m off.

Curfew is now taking more lives in contrary to it’s motive to save lives. Just recently, two Embu brothers, Benson Njiru Ndwiga 22 and Emmanuel Mutura, 19, were arrested by police last week for allegedly breaking curfew rules and later their bodies were found at Embu level 5 hospital mortuary.

This is among the many other curfew ordeals that have been in the air since the pandemic stroke.

Curfew has been, no doubt, the best way to contain the spread of coronavirus. It has proved to be effective in lowering the curve of the pandemic.

COVID-19 is a full-blown global health pandemic, and governments all over the world have imposed measures to prevent and control the spread of the virus. Kenya is no exception. However, there is the dark side which the normal mwananchi has been pressed to.

When the government first impossed nationwide overnight curfew on March 25th 2020, things got out of hand. Police were seen unleashing a torrent of violence on Kenyans. They shot and beat people at markets or returning home from work even before the daily start of the curfew. With the snail-pace Nairobi traffic, It was hard for someone leaving his job at 5pm to get to his house before the 7pm curfew. The penalty for failure to observe the curfew included either a fine of up to ksh 10,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.

Majority of Kenyans fell on the cuffs and beatings of policemen, some even losing their lives in the process. For instance in the case of the stampede at Likoni Ferry Channel in Mombasa after police lobbed teargas into a crowd as they tried to enforce the social distance rule. Scores of people were injured. After copious criticism from various groups such as Human Rights Watch over abuses in Mombasa, President Uhuru Kenyatta apologized generally about police use of force but did not instruct the police to end the abuses.

A few days later, the High Court barred police from using excessive force while enforcing the dusk to dawn curfew. The court even ordered Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to publish curfew guidelines. There were promises of changes on how police would handle the situation. It is one year later and nothing seems to have changed. Other than the curfew time from 7PM – 5PM now it’s 10PM – 4PM. There are still innocent Kenyans losing lives in the hands of Police last curfew, some bribing their way out and others escaping narrowly.

Despite the cry of Kenyans to stop police brutality, the acts still seem to spiral day by day. Kenyans live in fear of being arrested, tortured or worse, being killed. Being outside past curfew is now a criminal offence which Kenyans are careful not to commit. It’s sad to see Kenyans puting on masks, maintaining social distancing and obeying curfew rules not only because they don’t want to contract the virus but because they fear they might fall on the wrong side of the police. They are, seemingly, adhering to the COVID-19 regulations just because of the police. Which is contrary to the purpose of the measures.

It is shocking that people are losing their lives while supposedly being protected from the virus.

Curfew is not only having a negative impact on the economy but also on the mental health of people. It has pushed majority into depression and anxiety disorders. Not only those losing their family and friends in the hands of brutal policemen but also those losing their jobs and businesses due to the measures.
