Davie Jones is amongst the youngest talented and future rap gurus in the kenyan music scene. His khaligraph jones ilk of lyrical flow will automatically get you concluding that they are related, but are they? Let’s find out.

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Dave Gitau, 15years old, am in form two, live in dagoretti and I love doing music, preferably rap.

When did you realise you have passion for music?

At a tender age of 8, I would write songs and sing while in the shower (laughs). I guess everyone does that at times but as I grew listening to kaligraph I tried to rap and here Iam.

Does your parents support your music passion?

To be sincere they are not well pleased. They granted me permission but at times I feel like they are not impressed.

How do you juggle school and music?

I do my music during holidays. strictly, school days am at school though am in dayschool if needed to do something in music I can chip in.

Are you planning to do music fulltime after school?

Yes, definitely I love music and don’t feel stressed doing it.

How did you meet Troy Baraka?

we met with Troy at a rap battle and Troy gave me his no. I had the song written and decided to do a collabo.

Tell us about the song ‘keep it real’ that you did with Troy

It’s literally about how music these days has changed and how they affect people. I can’t say much, my music speaks for itself.

Are you related to khaligraph or you just inspired by him

(laughs) not at all. His music is good that’s why I like it.

If you were to collabo with a Kenyan female rapper whom would it be?

Definitely Bey T. Would be the happiest. Male, khaligraph and Timmy blanco.

You so young do you face any criticism?

Yes, alot almost everyone I must say and that’s what keeps me moving. I will prove them wrong eventually.

Where do you see yourself at 20?

where kaligraph is and more if I don’t let people sleep on me.

Tell us about your album dropping in August

Nothing much to it. Just doing me and having fun.

Ig:@-realdaviejones,

Employment has become every youth’s pet peeve and has begeted a notion and zeal for youths to start up their own businesses. Young entrepreneurs have emerged, not because there is no employment but because they want the dominance and monopoly of their passion. In this erudite interview, we rub shoulders with one jack of all trades who has a fleet of success on his palm.

Name : Clinton Anyona,

Nickname; Team-clint,

whom do you look up to in the industry

Ronneiye Coleman in USA.

What inspires you daily :

Good vibes plus positivity

whats your take about employment :

It helps different individuals to fend for their daily lives but none should base on it as a comfort zone.

What are the projects you have so far:

I have two gyms at Umoja and does projects with Ethic.

How did you raise your capital :

I am employed thou not for long I saved to start up my business.

What are the challenges faced?

Promoting fitness is not that easy, convincing an individual to maintain their health and diet is quite a task but proud to anytime. Loves mentoring youths and so far has ensured that his employees are young youths to keep them off from drugs.

Where do you see yourself  in 5 years time.?

Having a social hall  for fitness and out of employment fully.

What would you like people to know about you?

Am a social person, positive, love seeing happy faces and never gets angry…

other projects: he has a motorbike that he hires at times to bring in money partly and also a car which is also for business and leisure at a given time.

Advice to any youth out there

keep away from drugs, knowledge (google) be in the know, BE ambitious and always put God first and last in everything.

What’s your take about young youths today?

They have an advantage because  they have google; they can never run short of answers  but major disadvantage is that they are easily influenced.

From being guardian Angel’s schoolmate, to actually looking upto him as an icon of admiration, Tamurai Chifu adserts that his journey is one that is replete with coincidences and surprising encounters. He shares more of that in the following Interview.

TELL US BRIEFLY ABOUT YOURSELF

My real names is Brian Kiprotich, a student at University of Nairobi studying BA of Arts in mass communication.

WHEN DID YOUR PASSION FOR MUSIC BEGIN?

My passion for music started while in pre-school, I used to listen to a lot of radio back then the Juakali and Ukoo flani…funny in Primary I hated reggae and loved pop…in secondary I wrote my first verse which I turned into a song and the rest is history.

NOW THAT YOU ARE A GOSPEL ARTIST, DO YOU EVER GET TEMPTED TO DO SECULAR MUSIC?

Sometime yes…I think of addressing issues within the society that is bothering me…reason for songs like Fight and my biggest song Kenya dat we want..I think I have found a way to address such without crossing over to Secular.

WHOM DO YOU LOOK UPTO?

In Kenya Guardian angel (Funny we schooled together and by the time I was writing my music I loved reggae and loved God. He made me realize one can do a reggae song that is Gospel and ended my inner fight to choose btwn rasta and Christianity),Juliani…international KB and Gentleman.

TELL US ONE WEIRD FACT ABOUT YOU

I love sleeping and can sleep anywhere.

IF YOU WEREN’T DOING MUSIC, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

A producer editing movies.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

I see myself on the billboard charts among top reggae acts world wide.

HAVE YOU EVRR ENCOUNTERED REJECTION FROM A RADIO STATION?

Yes…thank God for internet nowdays one can push him/herself….I have learned the art of creating a community online that are always ready and willing to consume the content and music that I create…radio and TV are great but the future is better for any indie artist like me.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEXT PROJECT

I have put up my first album and it has done beyond my Expectations as an indie act..I plan for the whole year to do tours and performances promoting it…videos for the various songs with one set to drop before April.

ADVICE TO ANY ASPIRING MUSICIAN OUT THERETalent is just 10% or 5% of the music business the 90% comes from hard work, determination, focus and most Important good behavior…trust God to make a way for he always does so.

Deejaying is a skill that not just anyone can have (I don’t know how true that is, either) but through practice and lots of practice presumably you can be the best and most respected mix master. George Tomanka shares his deejaying experience with us.

When did you start Deejaying?
I started deejaying last year.

What inspired you ?
listening to other deejays work made me aggressive to do better because I was sure I would bring something new in the industry.

Whom do you look up to?
Dj jazzy Jeff an hip hop DJ

What makes your work unique?
Quality and detail oriented

What’s your Deejaying name?
Tomanka his real name just decided to maintain my real identity.

What’s your take about playing Kenyan music?
I love Kenyan music but the main problem is distribution because of the copyrights. Kenyan artists don’t have a specific style and the contents though the producers are there. They focus more on image and fame.

Which was your best moment ever in your deejaying career ?
people giving me money for my mixes though I didn’t prefer money at the moment.

Have you ever messed during your mixing?
No one is perfect and definitely some things go wrong at times. But learn to improve everyday.

Which is the common myth you’ve ever heard about Deejaying?
DJs don’t have music in their phones since they spend most of their time listening to them.

Any advice you can give to a Kenyan artists?
They should loosen the copyrights law, promote their music through tours and radio stations, improve their music by listening to other countries.

Finally, Where do you see yourself in 5yrs to come?
I see myself going fully into deejaying, and the brand to be on point.
